What is Playback Theater
Playback Theatre is a form of improvisational theatre where audience members share their personal stories and actors play them back on stage.
"We are playing your stories back to you."
Playback Theatre is often referred to as social theater because it promotes open communication, fosters mutual understanding and compassion. Thanks to that, the Founders of Playback Theatre were nominated for an alternative Nobel Prize in 2013 and recognized for Courage and Social Transformation.
Like traditional theatre, it allows the audience to immerse themselves into performance magic, experience emotions and existential themes, achieve catharsis.
Platforma Linii — Creating a safe space for stories to be heard

“
How it works?
We invite audience to share personal stories by creating a safe space
We create the theme
We acting it back by theater and musical improvisation
Conductor sets the atmosphere, encouraging sharing.
Performers, musicians, and lighting director bring stories to life.
Performance starts with short forms, exploring emotions and small memories, then moves to long stories.
Usually, 4-6 short forms precede 5-6 long stories, offering varied perspectives.
As a result, the audience moves to the empathy level. It helps building connection, healing and uniting society.
Playback Theatre can contribute towards
Social Impact
The method is widely used to interact with different communities including refugees, victims of wars and natural disasters, during political conflicts, as well as for educational purposes. It raises socially significant topics and facilitates their discussion. It helps to get away from stereotypes, better understand people who face social problems and understand what we can do with that for our future.
Personal Growth
Playback Theatre helps to express and understand different feelings by bringing them onto the stage. This method allows you to address topics of concern, share your experiences with others, hear and be heard. In addition, this method is widely used to teach and develop empathy, flexibility, emotional intelligence, listening and public speaking skills.
Organization Improvement
Playback Theatre is widely used to address organization issues. By sharing personal stories, hearing the stories of others and getting feedback on them, organizations go through change more easily, unite around common goals and values.
We have played more than 500 performances worldwide and staged international collaborations building the community (including more than 50 performances and training programs in Germany).
